Dear friends and neighbors, Hurricane Henri with sustained winds of over 75 mph is headed towards Connecticut. It is expected to make landfall early Sunday on Long Island and then move onshore to the eastern coast of Connecticut. The National Hurricane Center (NHC) interactive graphic HERE shows the trajectory and timing of this storm. NHC updates the storm trajectory forecast every three hours and this website provides provides interactive graphs and advisories to assist you. Governor has declared state of civil preparedness emergency The Connecticut State Emergency Operations Center has been partially activated on Saturday, August 21, and fully activated by the morning of Sunday, August 22. At the order of Governor, the Connecticut National Guard, is calling 200 Guardsmen and women to state active duty beginning on Saturday morning to prepare teams and specialized equipment in support of the state’s response. Expected missions include high-wheeled vehicle search and rescue, route clearance, power generation, and commodities distribution, but may shift depending on the actual impact of the storm. Eversource and Optimum have advised us that they are prepared and ready to handle the disruptions from this storm In recent years, inclement weather and high winds, have led to prolonged power and internet outages. The power and internet utility have advised us that they are ready and prepared. HERE is the communication from Eversource and HERE is the email from Optimum. As you know, after the last storm, specific legislation was put in place to ensure that utilities work as best as possible to ensure reliability of service and we are expecting that there will be follow through on the promises made by the utilities. Please prepare and expect to shelter in place by late Saturday evening through at least Monday morning You can refer to guidance for how to best shelter in place.
